DR.JUNCKER GIVES AN E-SEMINAR PRESENTATION ON TRANSLATIONAL BME

In this presentation Dr.Juncker talks about how biomedical engineering research is involved in healthcare and biosciences industry and importance of translational research. He shares his own experience with multiple spin-offs from the lab and talks about both the challenges and satisfactions coming from such experiences.

TOC for the presentation:

A. Role for biomedicalengineering and opportunities for translation and commercialization in healthcare and as researchtools, discussing trade-offs and how to move from one to the other
B. Simplicity is discussed with lab-on-a-chip (mostly complex), and our work on “simple” capillary microfluidics and capillarics. Complex, laborious operations automated using robotics can be done effortlessly on a small capillaric chip without any moving part or peripheral equipment (spin-off Sensoreal Inc.) A 3dprinted CC for saliva-based, rapid test for COVID19 antibody is shown.
C. Scalability: Linking incremental advances to exponential improvements can be transformative, and semiconductors (mooreslaw), and DNAmicroarrays and sequencing, exemplify it, while affinity proteomics not yet. antibody colocalization is introduced as a scalable assay for microarrays (spin-off PARALLEX BioAssays) and on microparticles (spin-off nplex biosciences inc. ). nplex further leverages common workflows and flowcytometry for high^(throughput, content, performance), and low^(cost), user-friendly proteomics
D. Conclusion: insights and lessons learned
